We Know Townsville

BTLawyers provides advice on a whole range of insurance, commercial litigation, workplace and personal law needs. The firm has strong links to North Queensland with many of its clients and staff hailing from Cairns, Townsville, Mackay and Rockhampton.

In 2018, BTLawyers opened its office in Townsville located at Level 1, 25 Sturt Street.

Our clients in the north range from meat workers and graziers to small and medium business owners and employers.

Several members of the firm spent a considerable amount of time in Townsville growing up, attending school and working.

The insurance team travels to Townsville every month for conferences and site inspections with the personal and Commercial Litigation teams providing regular over-the-phone and face-to-face advice in the North.

The firm also travels to Cairns, Mackay and Rockhampton monthly and will often spend time in Bundaberg and Mount Isa. In fact, the firm’s founding Director, Bruce Thomas, was born and raised in Cairns.

BTLawyers is proudly owned and operated in Queensland. We support Townsville in keeping the saint on the top of Castle Hill, renaming Magnetic Island to Cowboy Island and barracking for the cane toads and Fire.

BTLawyers North Queensland provides services from commercial and residential transactions, commercial litigation, general insurance, debt recovery to wills and estate administration.

Our staff are real people with real ties to the North. We share a real passion for helping all QLDers.

Growing up in Townsville

Tristan Higham

Tristan went to university in Townsville where he studied law at JCU between 2005 and 2009 and worked in the local area around Kirwan and Thuringowa.

He can recall the Friday or Saturday game nights and after a big Cowboys win, the celebrations that followed that you will only find in a place like Townsville and Far North Queensland.

Emma Tunn

With her father and grandmother being born and raised in Townsville, it’s only natural that Emma Tunn would have a soft spot for the place.

She describes Townsville as her ‘home away from home’, having spent a few years of her life living and working there. Much of her extended family still live and work in Townsville.

She very much misses her first ever apartment at The Lakes with its views of Magnetic Island and Castle Hill, which she used to climb (almost) every weekend.

Her favourite fish and chip shop of all time is Simply Tops on Palmer Street in South Townsville, which she visits for a feed every time she visits Townsville (sometimes more than once!)

Rhys Cann

Legal Assistant

Rhys did his high schooling in Townsville and lived, studied and worked in the city for many years before leaving for Brisbane in 2015.

He attended and graduated from Townsville State High School and was a member of the Town High Tropics Basketball program.

He grew up representing Townsville in Basketball with his team winning state titles for the region in U/16 and U/18 as well as representing NQ.

Although he now lives in Brisbane he still has direct ties to the city. His father is on the board of the Townsville Fire and soon to be sister in law playing for the WNBL team as well as having many close friends in the region.
